The Scots are coming off of a 28-14 win in a grudge match against St. Margaret’s. The Scots showcased poise and confidence in last week’s game with a performance that said, “This is just another day for us.” St. Margaret’s, on the other hand, were just looking for excuses. A newspaper in Orange County that referred to Rim of the world as the End of the World had an interview from St. Margaret’s head coach that said,
“It’s a shame that our boys had to have their title stripped away from them due to fog…”
The fog came in late in the third quarter, after the Scots scored all of their points. Rim football players were disgusted at the comment and Oracio Bacio, Scots Defensive end said,
“That’s ridiculous, we were winning before the fog came in, and do they think we practice in the fog? Really? We practice inside if there is any kind of weather outside.”
Last Saturday was the first state girls’ volleyball match for the Scots against, whom else but the St. Margaret’s Tartans. During the game, the Scots cheer section was chanting things like “end of the world” and “it’s too foggy” in a reaction to St. Margaret’s excuse. The Lady Scots would go on to beat the Tartan’s 3-0.
Tonight’s game against the Banning Broncos will be one to remember. Banning Quarterback, Sty Harrison(3244 total rushing yards), and Rim Running Back, Jacob Taylor(3395 total rushing yards), are fighting for the top rushing yards in the state. Banning likes to run close to an Oregon option/read offense giving Sty Harrison the ability to out run opponents in those long runs while the Scots like to get in the trenches and play smash mouth football until someone gets tired and makes a mistake then Jacob Taylor throws a move an makes them miss. The last contest between the Broncos and the Scots was for the League title. It was an offensive game to say the least with neither defense able to stop the running game of the other team, the Scots stopped the Broncos first at the end of the first half, forcing a punt. After the punt the Scots turned it over giving Banning the upper-hand. The Scots defense worked tremendously hard against the rush and was able to slow down and stop big runs. The game was left to a touchdown with the Scots on the scoring side of the field they were stopped short of the goal line. Banning took the League Title 49-41.
While most families will be shopping and juking through shopping isles plowing through customers in order to get the gift list filled on this Black Friday, The Rim of the World Fighting Scots are butting heads with the Banning Broncos in what can be called Blue and Black Friday. Expect the game to come close like the last one. The Scots are motivated to reach their first CIF title in over 35 years. The last CIF title they won was in 1976, back when my father went to Rim of the World.
