Even after winning their first Mission League title in six years by defeating Cathedral 62-26, the Chaminade Eagles are not done. Now, the Eagles are hopeful for a CIF championship. Thanks to their outstanding season, the Eagles are ranked #2 in their playoff bracket and will face off against Pacifica (Oxnard) this Friday at home. Chaminade has been looking forward to playoffs all season long and it must remember to focus on each and every game to ensure success. This week’s opponent, Pacifica, finished 3rd in the Pacific View League with 3-2 league record.
Pacifica has a balanced attack as the team scores by both rushing and passing touchdowns frequently. Pacifica’s two star players are quarterback Nick Davis and running back Adam Maciel. Both players are very experienced as they are both seniors. Davis has had a remarkable year, throwing 16 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Maciel is having a career year himself, with just about 1000 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. The Eagles defense will need to be able to defend both the pass and the rush because Pacifica knows how to adjust to various defensive schemes. The opening game of football playoffs is always nerve wrecking for both teams, as seniors on both sides know that it might be their last high school football game. And that is what makes it all that more exciting. Who will leave all their effort on the field and who will move on to the next round of CIF playoffs? We shall find out this Friday night!
